A fishing trawler, Rebecca Irene, called for Coast Guard assistance on November 8, 2011 in the Bering Sea as 40-foot waves and hurricane-force winds tore through the area.
The Rebecca Irene lost power in one of its two engines, leaving it stranded 115 nautical miles from its nearest safe haven- a harbour at Unimak Island.
The Coast Guard Cutter Sherman reached the vessel and transferred 20 nonessential crew. The remaining 14 crew were escorted by the Sherman as a private tug, Double Eagle, was contracted to tow the Rebecca Irene to safety. Click here for the full story.
exactAIS tracking shows the Rebecca Irene and the Double Eagle now making its way to port at Unalaska.
