Oil Spill in Singapore- Two Vessels Collide

Two vessels collided in the waters between Jurong Island and the Tuas View Extension on the afternoon of September 9, resulting in a large oil spill. There are no injuries reported and local port operations are unaffected.

The bulk carrier Sunny Horizon collided with the Korean-registered petroleum carrier DL Salvia. The DL Salvia was breached and close to 60 metric tonnes of oil has been spilled. The oil has remained concentrated within the Temasek Fairway, about 700 metres east of Sultan Shoal.

Oil spill response companies have been activated to respond as well as seven patrol and anti-pollution craft. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore have issued broadcasts for ships in the vicinity to navigate with caution around the site of the incident. The cause of the collision is currently being investigated.
