Data Processing Centre
Once data is downlinked from a satellite to an earth station, it is transmitted to our top-tier data processing centre in Toronto, Ontario. The data centre facility is a world-class co-location facility that features:
- Fail-safe grid power feeds
- Dependable diesel generating systems
- Reliable cooling systems
- Guaranteed fire suppression systems
- Consistent fibre-optic connectivity to the internet
The facility is also a major disaster communications hub for the city and province and is therefore first on the list of Toronto buildings scheduled to receive diesel fuel in the event of a wide-area power outage. Physical security includes biometric controlled entry, interior security walls, 24x7 guards and other features.
Inside the DPC facility, we house a fully virtualized set of computing clusters containing hundreds of processors. The DPC system receives all data downlinked at the earth stations and in only a few minutes, processes the data using our patented technology to extract every possible AIS message. In the next few seconds, the resulting messages are sent to our customers for the area of interest they have purchased. Finally, all the AIS data is stored in a fully backed-up archive, retained for at least ten years.
